Market women demonstrated against the ban on riding motorcycles and the imposition of a curfew on the people of Binduri

Following the imposition of a curfew in Binduri and its environs, as well as the ban on riding motorcycles in the area, market women in Binduri, located in the Upper East Region, hit the streets to register their displeasure with the government.

Speaking to the media, Nbun Sandra, the leader of the group, called on the government to reconsider its decision of the unwarranted curfew imposed on the people of Binduri and its surroundings. According to her, the people of Binduri cannot be treated this way while the criminals and the causes of this conflict roam freely. She therefore pleaded and highlighted how this will affect government business if the curfew and the ban on motorcycle riding remain in place.

On 25th March 2025, schools within Binduri were partially empty due to the ban on riding motorcycles in the area. Market women couldn’t trade in the market; markets within Binduri were empty due to the ban on motor riding in the district.

Chiefs, queen mothers, political party leaders, and the youth are of the view that a curfew can’t be imposed on the people of Binduri based on the advice of the North East Regional Minister.

Meanwhile, the curfew imposed on the Binduri District still remains from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Men are not allowed to ride motorcycles, and there is a total ban on wearing smocks in the Binduri District.
