Chiefs and queen mothers of the Kusaaug Traditional Council in the Upper East Region honored the Paramount Chief and President of the Kusaaug Traditional Council, Zug-raan Bawku Naaba Asigiri Abugrago Azoka II, to mark his 40th anniversary as part of the 2024 Samampiid activities.
The Samanpiid Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the Kusasis in the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The festival is one that is used to thank the Gods and their ancestors for a bumper harvest during the farming season. The festival was first celebrated in public in 1987.
This year Samampiid Mark the 37th samampiid festival celebrated by Chiefs, Queen mothers, and the people of kusaasis in Ghana.
It is celebrated under the leadership of Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the paramount chief of the Kusaug Traditional Area and president of the Kusaug Traditional Council.
The THEME for this celebration:
“Forty Years of Selfless Leadership: Consolidating the Peace, Unity, and Development of Kusaug.”
The statue of Zug-raan Bawku Naaba Asigiri Abugrago Azoka ll, is the first statue of Paramount chief in the Northern region of Ghana.
The grounds Durbar of the Samampiid is scheduled on 31st of December 2024. And it’s expected to take place at the Bawku Catholic school park in the Daduri in the Bawku Municipality.
The barn of smock-wearing in Bawku Municipality will be lifted on 30th December and 31st December respectively, to pave the way for the people to perform their traditional right of smock Wear.
The Samampiid festival is traditionally celebrated in December. The last Bawku market day of December was at the end of the year.
