Following the renewed and unsustainable peace in Bawku and its environment, a women’s group called themselves Women for Justice have petition the government of Ghana to fast-track the process of bringing lasting peace to Bawku, as promised to the good people of Bawku.
The demonstration saw thousands of women dressed in red and black attire to register their displeasure with the state, as the people of Bawku have been under curfew, a ban on motor riding, and restrictions on wearing their traditional dress, smock, for five years now without any changes in the situation.
According to the women, former President Nana Addo Dankwa and his Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, overpowered the Bawku Mamprusis for power, which has caused the loss of many Ghanaians’ lives and significant damage to Kusaasi properties, with the support of the NPP led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, the municipal Coordinating Director assured the woman that she could carry their grievance to the regional security council. For his part, the way the women presented their grievances will help bring back peace to Bawku for everyone to enjoy. Reacting to the Bawku situation, a concerned youth of Kusaaug, Mr. Henry Mbilla, called on the military in Bawku to practice how we can all contribute to bringing lasting peace to Bawku rather than acting as if they support a particular faction of the conflict. According to him, the escorts by the military for the Bawku Mamprusis from Bolgatanga to Bawku should be equal to those from Walewale to Bolgatanga as well.
For his part, whenever there is an escort from Bolgatanga to Bawku, the people of Bawku always receive unrest gunshots from the Mamprusis. He therefore called on the soldiers to always allow the customs and the police to search the Mamprusis’ items from Bolgatanga to Bawku before escorting them to Bawku town to save innocent lives.
