In the early hours of Tuesday, the staff of Bawku Senior High School and Bawku Technical Institute agreed to perform a traditional rite called the burial of the Okoro stick, which is part of the Kusaal tradition, where two parties agree to smoke a peace pipe after a battle or fight. The traditional authorities performed this ceremony to reconcile them.
This was agreed upon by the two institutions since there had always been rivalry and fights between them, leading to the destruction of property, including broken school walls, damaged cars, injured students, and more.
During the process, the chief of Kpalwega, Naaba Amenga, the Tengidaana of the community, the headmaster of Bawku Senior High School, the staff of Bawku Technical Institute led by Mr. Victor, the municipal police commander, and students from both institutions showed up at the event. However, it ended with bloodshed and the destruction of property.
The military task team in Bawku had to intervene to bring calm between these two schools. Many students were injured and were sent to the Vineyard Hospital in the Bawku municipality.
