International Literacy Day is observed on September 8 each year to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and education with the aim of driving home and stressing the point that literacy is a basic human right that belongs to all manner of persons and hence the need to achieve literacy for everyone.
As this year’s celebration falls on Sunday on the theme “Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace.”
Churches across the country should play a critical role in supporting and marking the day with congregants.
It is important for pastors to dedicate sermons for adults and youths on the importance of literacy and education.
Ensure the incorporation of literacy-themed lessons for Sunday school programs.
Raise awareness about literacy challenges in the community.
Encourage members to take action in supporting literacy initiatives in their respective communities.
By so doing, they will be demonstrating their commitment to education and community development.
Together, we will shape and change the future of education across Ghana through literacy promotion.
