Independence Day Celebration: Binduri District Calls for Peace and Unity to Return to Bawku.

Seven schools in the Binduri district of the Upper East Region participated in the 2025 Independence Day celebration.

This was in accordance with the government’s directive on how the Independence Day celebration should be conducted this year. Binduri district, which is not far from Bawku, successfully held its Independence Day celebration amid the unrest caused by gunshots in Bawku, even on Independence Day.

Speaking at the program, the district director of the Binduri District Assembly, Mr. Andrew Akumbutum, acknowledged the efforts of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to bring back peace to Bawku. He promised the overlord of Kusaug, Zug-raan Assigri Azoka Abugrago II, after he was sworn in as president of the Republic of Ghana, he would visit him. For his part,His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is working with the security agencies and relevant stakeholders to bring this vision to reality. Press freedom has also come along with the life of the 1992 Constitution. From just about one radio and TV station, the country boasts more than 700 media houses today. He gave thanks for the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law; media practitioners are no longer punished for what they write or broadcast. Fundamental human rights are largely being respected today.

He added that the government of Ghana, under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, chose the theme for the 68th Independence Anniversary: “Reflect, Review, and Reset.” According to him, the theme reflects the current state of affairs in our country, which has just come out of elections. Ghanaians massively voted for change from economic hardship, poor governance, and corruption. By endorsing the Reset Agenda of President Mahama, Ghanaians are saying that they Want a change in the direction of the country to meet their aspirations.

He praised President Mahama for delivering his campaign messages to the Ghanaian people by appointing only 60 ministers of state, despite having over one hundred and eighty members of Parliament.

Meanwhile, other districts, like Bawku West District in the Upper East Region, celebrated in their respective schools instead of gathering at one venue.

15 million Ghana cedis were spent only on organizing last year’s Independence Day celebration.
