Bawku and Kusaaug have been lacking peace for about five years now, following the renewed conflicts between the Kusaasi and Mamprusis in Bawku. Since the arrival of Seidu Abagri in Bawku, over a hundred people have lost their lives, including police officers, immigration officers, national security personnel, and military officers due to the conflict.
There has been a ban on motorcycle riding and the wearing of smocks in Bawku for five years now. There have been several losses of property in Bawku and along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway due to the conflict. The people of Bawku have been under curfew since 2021.
Peace is a key factor for all living beings, and the people of Bawku, Upper East, and Ghana as a whole are calling for it. Business partners, investors, and even the public sector in Bawku have closed down and fled the area for safety.
