Press Release by KUSAUG Youth
We, the concerned KUSAUG Youth, bring to your attention the ongoing violence and bloodshed on the ECOWAS highway, specifically the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway. The senseless killing of innocent lives must cease immediately.
The Mamprusis in Walewale have caused more harm in Walewale than in Bawku, where the main conflict lies. We, the KUSAUG youth, are alarmed that the laws of Ghana seem to apply selectively, targeting Kusaas in Bawku while ignoring the Mamprusis in Walewale. The five-year curfew imposed on us is a stark reminder of this disparity.
Furthermore, we are outraged that Majeed Bagura, who openly declared that there would be no peace in Bawku, remains at large and has even granted interviews on national television. This blatant disregard for the law has emboldened the Mamprusis settlers to continue their violent agenda.
*Demands for Answers*
We, the KUSAUG Youth, demand answers from the Mamprusis settlers:
1. *_Why the violence in Walewale?_*: If you claim Bawku as your own, why are you attacking Kusaas properties in Walewale?
2. *_Respect for Ghana’s sovereignty_*: Are you suggesting that Ghana should be recolonized, given your disregard for our laws and institutions?
3. *_Protection of civilians_*: Why do you always claim that passengers are students whenever you’re prevented from smuggling ammunition?
4. *_Respect for KUSAUG markets_*: What business do Mamprusis settlers’ women have in KUSAUG markets?
5. *_Recognition of traditional authority_*: Are you willing to acknowledge the Zug-raan palace as the rightful seat of traditional authority?
*Demands for Action*
We, the KUSAAS, are peace-loving people who want to coexist harmoniously with our neighbours. However, we will not stand idly by while our lives are threatened and our properties are destroyed. We demand:
1. *_Immediate arrest of Seidu Abagri_*: Until he is brought to justice, there will be no peace in Bawku.
2. *_Neutral military presence_*: Any attempt to protect Mamprusis settlers while allowing them to disturb the peace will not be tolerated.
3. *_Identification of genuine peacekeepers_*: We urge the government to distinguish between genuine peacekeepers and those who seek to exploit the conflict.
4. *_Ban on Mamprusis settlers in KUSAUG markets_*: We will no longer allow Mamprusis settlers to threaten our markets and livelihoods.
We call on the government to fulfill its promise to the people of Bawku, made during the President’s campaign visit to Zug-raan’s palace. We demand immediate action to save innocent lives and restore peace to Bawku.
Ghana belongs to all its citizens, not just the Mamprusis settlers. We will no longer tolerate the selective application of the law and the disregard for human life.
Long live Ghana!
Long live KUSAUG!!
Long live Zug-raan!!!
