Upper East Regional House of Chiefs Appeals for Airport in the Upper East Region

 

President John Mahama visited the Upper East Region on Thursday, 20th March 2025, in a post-election “gratitude tour” to thank the chiefs, community leaders, and residents for their overwhelming support during the 2024 general elections.

The President’s visit underscores his appreciation for the region’s decisive votes, which contributed to his re-election victory and the success of his party’s parliamentary candidates across all 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region.

During the one-day visit, President Mahama engaged with the chiefs and people of the region at the Jubilee Park in Bolga, where he highlighted the region’s pivotal role in securing both his presidency and a parliamentary majority.

The President also used the occasion to reiterate his administration’s commitment to delivering on key campaign pledges, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare and job creation.

He appeals for sustained unity and support as his government navigates its second term.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, the spokesperson, who is also a chief of Nangodi, Nangnaab Na-Pariyoung Kosom Asaga Yelzoya II, expressed gratitude to the president for his commitment to the promises made during his 2024 general election campaign. According to him, the people of the Upper East Region have faith in President Mahama that he will fulfill the promises made. For his part, and on behalf of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, he stated that the Upper East Region deserves an airport where they can fly from the Upper East to Kumasi and from the Upper East to Accra to make their travel easier.

He added that the roads in the Upper East Region are all in a deplorable state, which needs to be addressed, especially the Bolgatanga, Bawku, and Pulmakuom road.

The Chiefs of the Upper East Region emphasized challenges such as poor roads, limited school electrification, and reiterated the region’s longstanding demand for an airport, during the regional ministers visit after assuming the office as regional minister.

Hon. Akamugri outlined plans to fulfill the region challenges and the party’s agricultural modernization pledges, including irrigation projects and mechanization centers, to the chiefs of the Upper East Region during his visit before the president embarked on his thank you tour to the region.

President Mahama assured the people of the Upper East Region that the DRIP initiative would address road repairs in the region.
