The Bawku Presbyterian Nursing Training College in the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region today organized a press conference to address the delay in the reopening of the Bawku Presbyterian Nursing Training College.
According to them, the school was officially closed on the 22nd of November 2024 and has not reopened since. They expressed their frustration regarding the delay in reopening the college for the second semester. The SRC president of the school, Mr. AkamahJames, expressed concern for the final year students who are preparing for their upcoming final examinations. They are in great fear and panic because staying at home while other nursing institutions have resumed their second semester for academic activities poses a significant threat to their future.
For their part, the entire student body is disappointed in the management board of the college, because of the selfish ambition using the conflict as an excuse to put the future nurses and doctors probably to the gutters. Because we all know that because of the conflict in Bawku, the school got separated into two to make it accessible to the two feuding parties.
What is now stopping the authorities from re-opening the college?
The students therefore demand that if the management board knows that they cannot do anything about the situation, then they should come clear and move us to other government institutions within the upper East Region for us to execute our educational mandate because we can’t wait for our future to be jeopardized.
They appeal for urgent intervention of the president of Ghana His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the interior minister Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the minister of education Hon Haruna to come to their aid for the re-opening of the college for both campuses.
