Tensions erupted in the Talensi Constituency on April 5 as Talensi youth set fire to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in rejection of the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee.
The action occurred after the president nominated John Millim Naabwamya as DCE of Talensi.
The reason behind the youth’s action seems to be the rejection of the DCE nominee. However, sources indicate that the nominee’s association with some opinion leaders in the area may have triggered his rejection.
The National Fire Service in the Talensi District was quick to respond to the call of the people of the area to put out the fire. Talensi Police have since taken over the area and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
These nominations, in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended, are now subject to approval by the respective District Assembly members.
The final confirmation of these appointments remains unclear regarding whether the various District Assembly members will approve the nominees or not.
