A powerful demonstration took place on the principal street of Binduri, as Queen mothers and market women came together to express their deep dissatisfaction with the current situation in the area. The protesters, clad in red and black, marched through the streets, carrying placards and chanting slogans to condemn the alleged military brutality in the Azumsapeliga community and the curfew being imposed on the people of Binduri.
The demonstrators demanded justice for the victims of the alleged brutality and called on the government to take immediate action to address the security situation in Binduri accusing the military of being the reason of the conflict in Binduri. One of the protesters, expressed frustration and concern for their family’s well-being, lamenting that their husbands had abandoned them and fled for their lifes due to fear of military persecution.
The women protesters also highlighted the economic hardship caused by the curfew, which they claim has severely impacted their ability to trade and earn a living. They struggle to feed their families and pay their children’s school fees, exacerbating the already difficult situation.
The protesters also expressed concerns about the military presence in Binduri, alleging that the soldiers stationed in the township, who are predominantly Mamprusi, are somehow linked to the sporadic gunfire incidents. They believe that some individuals from the Mamprusi community fire gunshots and then retreat, creating the impression that they are not the perpetrators.
During a press conference, Nbun Sandra highlighted several key demands, including:
– Lifting the curfew imposed on Binduri
– Reviewing the curfew hours to ease the pressure on residents
– Removal of the Security stationed in Binduri township
The protesters’ voices echoed through the streets, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency in security operations. The demonstration serves as a testament to the community’s determination to seek justice, protection, and economic relief for its members.
